What's the first thing you do when you arrive at the office?
If the answer is “open the windows” you are probably part of a group of workers who sleep more, exercise more and are also in a better mood. This is stated by the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, an American medical journal that studies sleep. The article, published by Exame magazine, states that “employees who enjoy more light (especially natural light) during the day are more likely to be healthier and maintain a good mood”. When studying a group that was exposed to natural light during work hours, it was discovered that they slept, on average, 46 minutes more than other colleagues. Another interesting fact is that those who work in these conditions also tend to be more physically active.
The group of workers who did not have windows near their desks or effective artificial lights had physical problems, sleep disorders and a low quality of life. We are so affected by our environment because we spend most of our time working.
Ideally, the workplace should be conducive to concentration, comfortable, safe and now we also know the importance of prioritizing lighting.
Light, preferably natural, contributes to the successful execution of activities and also makes the space more pleasant. Architects already tend to include good and efficient lighting in their projects, and here are some more solutions you can suggest:
-Directed lighting is a good option: to make the environment more pleasant, use strategically positioned cold light spots; -When using natural and artificial light, be careful not to cause visual fatigue. Neutral colors that reflect light in the environment can be a good solution;
-Use luminaires in a longitudinal direction to the windows. Additionally, large windows, glass walls, skylights or horizontal openings in the wall are great options for letting in natural light.
When opting for a brighter office, it is important to be aware of the need to have good quality furniture, which has good resistance to excess light. Discover our complete product portfolio!
